EDWARDS — Rebound or run.
No one will ever confuse Vail Christian coach Sheldon Kuhns with Bobby Knight. (And let's face it, Kuhns is pretty much in a coma compared to someone like Eagle Valley's Brent McConaghy. We kid both because we like both.)
But, especially after Tuesday's loss against Hayden, it was time.
“We instituted some running repercussions,” Kuhns said. “We have to rebound.”
With that in mind, the key stats in Vail Christian's 90-50 thumping of DeBeque Saturdays were 15 rebounds from Branden Currey and 14 swipes of the glass from Kevin Boselli. Both had double-doubles with 12 points each.
Glad tidings also came in the form of sweet passing. The Saints dropped 22 dimes against the once-archrival Dragons.
Fernando Hernandez had 25 points to led the team, while Gunnar Wilson finished with 15. Just to stir things up at the Ellsworth breakfast table this morning, Austin Ellsworth had eight points, which was more than his younger brother Ethan. (No ragging your younger brother too much, Austin. You should score more.) In fairness to Austin in all things Ellsworth, he's stepped up his game recently.
The Saints are 9-6 overall and 4-3 in the 2A Slope. Next up is a road trip to Soroco. The girls play at 6, followed by the boys at 7:30 p.m.
Huskies fall at Moffat
CRAIG — After its biggest win of the season beating Steamboat Springs Friday, Battle Mountain boys basketball team lost a rough one at Moffat County, 58-31.
The Huskies (6-14) host Glenwood Springs Friday.
