56 Hope Road plays upbeat songs at the Moon tonight.
"I don't like to give in to any stereotypes, but influences run from Paul Simon to Medeski and Galactic, and you could almost throw Radiohead in there," said the vocalist and guitarist.
He likens his first experience of hearing Marley to his first Dead show when he was 18.
"Now that was a defining moment," he said.
He and Stephen Goveia (vocals, guitar) went to high school together. After perfecting the art of covering songs, they got selected to play on Star Search, and had to come up with three original songs in two weeks. Their first original was "Boombastic," and the boys were bitten by the bug. Now, they're part of the seven-piece 56 Hope Road.
"We're all about a positive vibe, we're a party band," he said. "Our shows in Chicago are pretty crazy."
The group is traveling through the Rockies in an Explorer and a minivan.
"We try to make the sort of music where you can't help but bop your head," said Goveia. "You just feel it and start grooving."
