VAIL - New Orleans evacuee Leo Palazzo had some over-due luck on his side last weekend at Lionshead's Oktoberfest when he won the keg bowling contest with a strike.
The crowd was so touched by his Hurricane Katrina story that a hat was spontaneously passed around to collect money for the Red Cross.
The Oktoberfest party continues Friday at 6 p.m. in Vail Village for another weekend of brat eating, stein swiveling and Bavarian entertainment. The official keg tapping ceremony takes place at 7 p.m.
Oktoberfest features food, entertainers and expo booths along Bridge Street and Gore Creek Drive. Bratwurst-eating contests, keg bowling, and kids' entertainment and activities are also part of the lineup. Saturday evening concludes with a free concert featuring Opie Gone Bad and Brethern Fast on the main stage. Music on tap Sunday evening is the Laughing Bones.
