William C. "Bill" Hopp, formerly of Edwards, died Sept. 9 at his home in Muscatine, Iowa after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 70.

Hopp was born Dec. 14, 1934 in Cedar Valley, in West Branch, Iowa, the son of Frances and Mayme "Mary" (Simecek) Hopp. He married Kathryn Streger in 1976.

Hopp owned a service station and RV trailer dealership in Muscatine before retiring to Colorado in 1984. Hopp and his wife owned Body Tan Ltd. in Eagle-Vail from 1984 until 1988. Hopp also returned to his first love of farming and hayed several local spots, family member say.

Hopp hunted deer, elk and bear with his wife through the operation of High Trail Outfitters from 1986 until 1998. He also raced legend cars until 1999, and snowmobiled and rode ATVs with his grandchildren.

Hopp and his wife returned to a farm in Iowa in January.

Survivors include his wife; son Loren "Pete" Hopp and his wife, Debbie, of Wilton, Iowa; daughter Laura K. Taylor and her husband, Doug, of Muscatine; son Mike Hopp of Knoxville, Iowa; stepdaughters, Dena Bates and her husband, Cory, of Muscatine, and Debbie Darrough and her husband, David, of Eagle; sister Karen Hopp of Iowa City; father-in-law Leroy Waters of Muscatine; and 12 grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was buried Tuesday at Oasis Cemetery near West Branch, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, donations can sent to Hospice of Muscatine via Hopp at 3121 New Era Road, Muscatine, IA 52761. Online condolences for the Streger and Hopp family can be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com
