Local legend Jim Himmes will receive the Service to the Community Award from the Marquette University Alumni Association at its annual Alumni National Awards Dinner on April 29.
Himmes, a 1968 Marquette graduate and Eagle resident, is the founder and past executive director of Meet The Wilderness, a nonprofit group that provides physical, mental and spiritual activities to local school kids and "at risk" kids from Chicago and Denver.
Himmes remains active with Meet the Wilderness in addition to volunteering for a number of other nonprofit organizations, including a literacy program and Habitat for Humanity.
In 1990, Himmes was honored with the Colorado Marquette Alumni Community Service Award.
