The Colorado Department of Transportation will

add a "School Bus Stop Ahead" sign near the

North entrance into Town. CDOT recommends

there should be at least 500 feet of sight distance

when approaching a bus stop.

However, the first

corner as you enter Town only allows for 409 feet

of sight distance to the bus stop near Toledo

Street on Main. The Minturn Town Council

requested CDOT install the sign instead of look-

ing for an alternate location for the bus stop.

Troy Thompson of ERC has been retained by

Minturn Town Council to apply for another

Natural Resource Damage grant from the

Colorado Department of Health and

Environment to continue the Eagle river restora-

tion from Bellm Bridge to I-70 and Dowd

Junction. Grants will be awarded in 2007.

The Town is reviewing potential locations that

would provide more parking in Minturn. Carter

& Burgess, the Town's engineering consultant, is

helping the Town assess its parking inventory and

needs. Look for future postings for public meet-

ings and public input on this important issue.

Carter & Burgess is working with the Planning

Staff to create new Engineering Standards. The

new Standards will be submitted to the Planning

and Zoning Commission Staff for review by

August 2006.

Don't miss the Minturn Independence Day

Celebration, Sunday July 2nd. The parade starts

at 6:00 pm followed by the Gallegos Family

Picnic, music by Suarez, food and games for the

entire family ending with a candle lighting cere-

mony.

The Little Beach Playground will be dedicated to

the memory of Vicki Golden thanks to a generous

donation to the Little Beach Park Committee

from the Golden Family for Park renovations.

Please join the Golden Family and friends for

refreshments and kids activities on Saturday, July

8th at 2 pm at Little Beach Park on Cemetery

Road to celebrate the playground dedication.

The new Little Beach Park is a volunteer effort

organized by the Little Beach Park Committee, a

Minturn citizens group. Many Minturn residents

have generously donated countless hours of their

time to fundraise, organize and physically con-

struct the Park for the enjoyment of the entire

community. The Park Committee is grateful for

everyone's support!

The Town is currently considering contracting

with the Minturn Community Fund (MCF) to

allow the MCF to manage the Little Beach Park

and Amphitheater for community and private

events. The Park and Amphitheater will be avail-

able for a use fee beginning in August 2006.

The

MCF is a nonprofit organization whose purpose

is to provide diverse cultural, educational, enter-

tainment, and community-building events in

Minturn and to provide financial assistance to

projects initiated by local Minturn organizations

or citizen groups that benefit the Minturn com-

munity and its citizens. For information or a

grant application, please contact Kelly at (970) 827-

4235.

Minturn police officer Marsha Rich has moved

back to Connecticut, her home state, to pursue

new adventures. We'll miss you Marsha. Thanks

for all your support.

Councilwoman Kelly Brinkerhoff was appointed

as the Minturn Town Council's representative to

the Eagle County Open Space Committee.

A public hearing on the Battle Mountain Planned Unit

Development (PUD) Concept Plan Submission will be

held during the Planning and Zoning Commission

Meeting, July 12, 2006 starting at 7:00 pm. All citizens

are encouraged to attend.

The Town Council at the June 21st Council meeting

appointed new Planning & Zoning Commission mem-

bers. All four Minturn citizens that applied for the

Commission were approved to fill the four vacant seats.

Your new Commission members are Jim Brinkerhoff,

Ernie Glesner, Lynn Teach and John (Woody) Woodruff.

The new Commission members join Kristi Boulle and

Robert Martinez on the Commission. Robert Martinez

will remain on the Commission as an alternate until June

2007.

Citizen Advocacy Group. GET INVOLVED! The

Town is looking for volunteers that want to be advocates

for their neighborhoods. Neighborhood advocacy is an

important way to get information to the citizens. If you

are interested in volunteering for the Citizen Advocacy

Group, please contact Karen Earley at 827-5645.

On Sunday June 11th the Minturn Community

Fund organized a fundraiser to help one of our

favorite locals, Jim Popeck, with medical expens-

es incurred during a recent serious illness. The

fundraiser, a poker run held at the Gashouse in

Edwards and finishing at the Saloon with music

by Little Hercules, was a huge success that raised

approximately $16,000.

The Gourmet Cowboy at 455 Main Street is

now open for private parties and catering

services.

Alison Plummer Events has moved into the

old Cuisine Catering location at 151B Main

Street. Alison provides catering services, take

out lunch and family style dinners to go

Tuesday - Friday 11:00 am - 7:00 pm and pro-

vides breakfast and lunch at the Minturn

Market Saturdays 9:00 am - 2:00 pm at the

Minturn Cellars.

Watch for the expansion of JB's Barbeque,

which is under new ownership. We can't

wait! Welcome to the neighborhood Emily

and Mark Tamberino.

Don't forget to visit the Saloon's new outdoor

deck.

This year we have over one hundred new mar-

ket booths!

Our first two markets brought 3,000 - 4,000

people to Minturn, the most market atten-

dees ever this early in the season!

New This Year: Look for the Beer Garden at

the Market located on the courtyard of the

Mollie G building. The beer garden will be

open July 1 - August 12 from 11 am - 2 pm

and over half the proceeds will be donated to

the Minturn Community Fund and the

Minturn Seniors.
