The Hand Spot is the newest product from the folks who brought you the Snot Spot.
VAIL You'll never need to reach for a tissue again, just be careful when you're shaking hands.
The local folks who brought you the Snot Spot last year, have seen the future and it is warm. So they introduced the Hand Spot, which can be worn directly on the hand or a thin glove liner.
Last year, Snot Spot president Brennon Martin introduced the first wearable, washable fleece nose wiper for skiers and snowboarders. When the snow melted, so did most of the demand for their Glove Spot and Mitten Spot which are designed for use over a thick winter glove or mitten. The Hand Spot is designed for warmer-weather use.
"After the original product hit the market, we received many, many requests from joggers and others who wanted to use the product for cool weather activities that don't require a large, insulated glove," Martin said. "We decided to introduce a product specifically for this market, designed with this kind of user in mind."
Martin said the Hand Spot has a slimmer, more fitted design and is made from a thinner, less bulky fleece than the original. It has an adjustable hook-and-loop wrist strap to fit a wider range of users' hands. He said the Hand Spot provides the same soft, non-chafing surface area for taking care of those pesky drips while not interfering with the dexterity required for tying laces, adjusting straps or handling dog leashes.
"Our customers loved the original Snot Spot," Martin continues, "but they kept telling us that runny noses were a problem in lots of places besides on the ski lift. The Hand Spot make the Snot Spot applicable to a much wider market."
The Snot Spot's Hand Spot will be available for order by retailers beginning at this week's Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in Salt Lake City.
The product, which retails for $9.95, is available in a single "one-size-fits-most" version and will be sold in black only.
Founded in 2005 by Monica Martin in Vail, When I Grow Up was created as a means to market a variety of different environmentally friendly product ideas which could be used to generate revenue for donations to charitable organizations. For more information, visit www.snotspotgear.com.
