EAGLE COUNTY — Police arrested two men Friday night for separate crimes in Avon and Eagle after finding one man transporting 15 pounds of marijuana and the other carrying 20 grams of methamphetamine, police reported.
In Avon, Antonio Padilla, 19, nearly collided with an officer when he failed to yield at the Benchmark Road roundabout, Avon Police Chief Brian Kozak said. The officer stopped Padilla, a Clifton resident, and found the methamphetamine while searching the car, Kozak said.
Padilla told police he had smoked and swallowed meth, what is sometimes called a “Scooby Snack,” prior to being pulled over, Kozak said.
Padilla faces charges of driving high on meth and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. He posted $15,000 bond Sunday and was released from the Eagle County jail.

The arrest might foreshadow things to come, Kozak said.
“Since I’ve been here it’s the largest meth bust,” he said. “We don’t have a lot of arrests associated with methamphetamine. I think it’s just a matter of time before it becomes a problem.”
In Eagle, Deputy Tim Comroe pulled over Palm Harbor, Fla., resident Michael Davis, 41, for allegedly making an illegal U-turn in the Eby Creek Road roundabout.
Comroe said he suspected Davis might have drugs after seeing a spare tire and jack in the back seat, as well as a map outlining a route from Arizona to Florida via Las Vegas. Comroe brought in two dogs, and they caught the scent of drugs in the trunk, Comroe said. Deputies got a search warrant and discovered 12 cellophane and duct-tape wrapped packages of marijuana. The 15 pounds of dope have an estimated street value of $15,000, Comroe said.
Davis refused to disclose where he got the marijuana and where it was going, Comroe said.
Davis was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of more than 8 ounces of marijuana and driving the wrong way in a roundabout.
He was being held on $3,500 bond Monday evening at the Eagle County jail.
