BEAVER CREEK — Vice President Dick Cheney popped out from a closed-doors summit in Beaver Creek on Saturday to help rename a building.

Village Hall was renamed Gerald R. Ford Hall.

Cheney was in Beaver Creek for the AEI World Forum, a gathering of political and business leaders. The forum is hosted by the Vail Valley Foundation and the American Enterprise Institute.

Harry Frampton, chairman of the Vail Valley Foundation board of directors; Vaden Bales, President Ford’s son-in-law; and Scott Mason, general manager of the Park Hyatt Beaver Creek, flanked the vice president during the ribbon-cutting.

President Ford, a longtime local homeowner and supporter of Eagle County, created the event in the early ’80s. Ford died in December.

The ceremony was outside but not open to the public. Members of the media were not invited.

During the World Forum last year, a Golden resident was arrested by Secret Service agents after he approached Cheney in Beaver Creek Village.

Cheney arrived in Beaver Creek on Friday night. He made a speech during the event Saturday, said John Dakin, spokesman for the Vail Valley Foundation.

The World Forum ends today.

Participants include former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, Arizona Sen. Jon Kyl, presidential candidate Mitt Romney, World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz, former Dell Chief Executive Officer Kevin Rollins and Shell Oil President David Sexton.
