BEAVER CREEK — Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes will rock Beaver Creek as part of the resort’s 10th annual Oktoberfest celebration, Saturday and Sunday. Outdoor enthusiasts can participate in the first annual Oktoberfest Shuffle and cheer for their favorite athletes at the 2007 Mountain Biking World Professional Championships. Bavarian cuisine, beer, costume and Alpenhorn contests, kid’s activities and a live band from Austria will entertain guests throughout the weekend.

Get your shuffle on at the first annual Beaver Creek Oktoberfest Shuffle on Saturday. Join friends and family for a scenic “hike or hustle” on Beaver Creek Mountain.

Proceeds from the non-competitive 5k and 10k family events will benefit cancer prevention, education and early detection programs at the Vail Valley Medical Center’s Shaw Regional Cancer Center. The Shuffle begins at 10 a.m. Day-of registration is available for $40 per person from 8:30-9:45 a.m. on Beaver Creek Plaza, next to the ice skating rink. Kids ages 12 and under are free. The Oktoberfest Shuffle is the inaugural summer Shuffle event that will complement the annual Snowshoe Shuffle at Beaver Creek scheduled for March 2, 2008. Call 477-5177 for more information.

The festivities continue at the base of Beaver Creek Mountain as the world’s top mountain bikers battle shoulder-to-shoulder while navigating banked turns, tabletops, step-down jumps and other elements to try and earn the coveted crown of World Professional Champion. The action gets underway at noon on Saturday, and features 16 of the world’s best male and female racers vying for a share of the record $100,000 cash payout and the keys to a new 2008 Jeep Liberty. Spectators can view the race from Beaver Creek Lawn, near the base of the Centennial Express Lift.
