This gingerbread house, decorated by Bernie Oswald and Brian Williams, won last years professional division of Court Appointed Special Advocates annual gingerbread house competition.
BEAVER CREEK Local chefs, both professional and amateur, have been helping CASA of the Continental Divide provide a voice in court for local abused and neglected children since 2003 when CASAs first Holiday Fantasy Gingerbread House Competition took place. The competition is held the day after Thanksgiving each year in Beaver Creek.
This years event is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 23 to coincide with the Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony. Rules and entry forms for the competition are posted on CASAs website at http:casa.colorado.net. Cash prizes are awarded to the winning chefs in both the amateur and professional divisions. The close of entries is Nov. 6.
Last year a childrens division was added to the competition. It was so popular with children of all ages that it has been split into two age groups this year. Those seven and under will be in one division while children from eight to twelve will be in another division. Local schools will be distributing entry forms to their students soon and the entry form and rules for both divisions will also be available on CASAs website soon.
CASA volunteers advocated in court for 83 abused and/or neglected children in Eagle, Summit, Lake and Clear Creek Counties last year. New volunteers are always being sought. Those interested should contact CASA of the Continental Divide at (970) 513-9390 about the next training class. The same number is the source for additional information about the gingerbread house competition.
