AVON — Work on the railroad crossing Wednesday will close that stretch of West Beaver Creek Boulevard from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The crossing is between Avon Elementary School and U.S. Highway 6. The railroad ties will be replaced with concrete panels to make the road smoother. Drivers should use Avon Road as a detour.
Avon Elementary School students will not be allowed to walk across the railorad while the worl is being done.
The town will use this road closure as a test for a new reverse 911 emergency notification system. Avon residents with land lines should receive a phone call about the road closure.
Two railroad crossings will be built later this month: between the Westin Riverfront resort now under construction and town hall, and between the resort and the town’s transportation center. That work will take place from Oct. 8 to Oct. 19, but will not affect traffic.
A work train will travel through Avon for the next three weeks to bring construction materials for the railroad crossings. Drivers and pedestrians should be aware that a train may be on the tracks.
