Briefs: Vail police auction is Dec. 3

VAIL, Colorado — Snowboards, skis, bikes, cameras and other items will be available at the Vail Police Department’s annual auction of unclaimed property, which will be held at 6 p.m., Dec. 3 in the Vail Town Council Chambers.

Viewing begins at 5:30 p.m., when a complete listing of auction items will be released. Items may be bought with cash, check or credit card.

Smaller items not included in the auction will be available for purchase beginning at 5:30 p.m. Goods such as hats, gloves, gators, goggles, umbrellas, clothing, bike and ski helmets will be sold at low prices, the police department says.

Free parking at former Wendy’s

VAIL — There are approximately 75 free parking space at former site of the Wendy’s in West Vail. The spaces will be available seven days per week throughout the ski season.

Drivers can then take a town bus to the village and ski slopes. The West Vail green and red buses leave the village every 40 minutes.

The fast-food restaurant was demolished earlier this month. The town may build a fire station there.

Mold isolated at senior apartments

EAGLE — A reported incidence of a mold problem at a Golden Eagle Senior Apartments unit was caused by a leak in a pipe.

It is, to the knowledge of the management, an isolated incident. The mold was discovered when a maintenance person went into the apartment to change a furnace filter, and discovered a leak that was dripping water onto wood in a crawl space below the roughly 20-year-old apartment. The dripping water caused mold to grow in that spot.

The leak was immediately fixed. Golden Eagle Senior Apartment Property Manager Claudia Alexander says she has received no reports of subsequent health problems.

“We have been proactive,” Alexander said.

Alexander said she immediately called in a mold specialist, Colorado Environmental Assessments out of Vail, who came the next day to remove the mold. Then, she followed up by calling in Colorado environmental specialist Wendell Rahorst, who sampled the air quality in 10 units, just to be sure. Results are expected back next week.
