EAGLE COUNTY More police will be out looking for drunk drivers through mid-January.
Police with the Gore Range DUI Task Force will work random weekends until Jan. 19, Capt. Richard Duran of the Colorado State Patrol said.
All the officers on the task force will patrol for drunk drivers in Avon, Vail, Minturn, Edwards, Eagle and Basalt. Some will be working overtime paid for by a state grant, Duran said.
About 10 officers on the task force worked Nov. 23 and 24 in Vail, Eagle-Vail, Avon and Basalt. Those officers made 12 driving under the influence arrests and gave 39 tickets.
Police want people to enjoy the holidays, Duran said.
If you choose to drink, dont drive, Duran said. Plan ahead by having a designated driver, taking public transportation or call a family member or friend.
This year, police dedicate their efforts to victims and families who have been harmed by drunk drivers, Duran said.
Police also are holding a toy drive for needy children at every police department in Eagle County, Duran said. New toys can be dropped off at any police department before Christmas, Duran said.
