GEORGETOWN, Colorado — A semitrailer driver chaining up his tires on Interstate 70 was seriously injured when a driver struck him Sunday morning, the Colorado State Patrol said.

Clifton Dickerson Jr., 34 of Santa Fe, Texas, was on a shoulder that was not a designated chain-up area when a westbound Jeep Wrangler lost control and went off the road, colliding with the semitrailer and then Dickerson, troopers said.

The Jeep driver, Paul Cigolini, 23, of Weehawken, N.J. was not injured, troopers said.

He was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of careless driving causing bodily injury.

Troopers did not suspect alcohol or drugs in the crash.
