Man killed by attackers, Breckenridge Police say

BRECKENRIDGE — A 35-year-old Summit County man died after being assaulted by two unknown men at a Breckenridge restaurant and bar early Monday morning, officials said.

Police are investigating the man’s death as a homicide, according to Kim Green, of the Breckenridge Police Department.

Thomas Guidry, of Breckenridge, was pronounced dead at 2:09 a.m. at St. Anthony Summit Medical Center. As of Monday afternoon, the cause of death was unknown, officials said. He is scheduled for an autopsy in Jefferson County on Wednesday, said Summit County Coroner Joanne Richardson.

“We have to look at all possibilities,” she said, adding that it is a complicated case and there was nothing obvious.

Guidry was involved in a verbal confrontation in the upstairs bar at Salt Creek Steakhouse before being escorted downstairs by an employee, according to police.

Shortly after, he was assaulted in the foyer, police said.

“It was never a brawl upstairs, but it did go to that downstairs,” Green said.

As Guidry collapsed to the floor and became unresponsive, bystanders called 911 and started CPR, which was going on when police arrived on the scene at 1:18 a.m., according to the police statement. Red, White and Blue Fire

Department and Summit County Ambulance also arrived to transport Guidry to the hospital, the statement said.

Police were busy searching for two unidentified white men in their 20s who were captured on surveillance video, according to the statement. The tape shows one man wearing a camouflage coat and the other wearing a white coat and white baseball hat, the statement said, and police were planning to release images from the video to help with identification if necessary.

“We’re trying to get more witnesses and patrons in here to look at video,” Green said Monday morning.

Throughout the day, four agents from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation collaborated with the Breckenridge Police Department to process the crime scene in the foyer, Green said. Fourteen patrons and employees of Salt Creek were taken to the Police Department for interviews, according to the police statement.

Calls to the restaurant were not returned as of Monday evening.

This would be the first homicide in Breckenridge in about five years. The last murder was Halloween night 2002, when Cody Wieland was fatally assaulted on Main Street.

The Breckenridge Police Department is attempting to locate additional witnesses who may have information about the suspects. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Detective Sgt. Susan Quesada at 547-3137.
