BEAVER CREEK, Colorado — Dills DaLone refused to wait for his friend, who slept in on a powder day.
DaLone snowboarded alone through aspen groves, which he described as “untouched,” on Beaver Creek Mountain Tuesday morning as his friend went to Denny’s in Avon.
“Don’t eat Denny’s on a powder day,” he said.
Skiers and snowboarders woke up to 6 new inches of new snow Tuesday morning on Beaver Creek Mountain. Vail got 5 inches. The past two months have been the snowiest for Beaver Creek since 1996 and the snowiest for Vail Mountain since 2000.
The Vail Valley could get 5 to 10 inches of snow between Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon and maybe more at higher elevations, said John Kyle, data program manager for the National Weather Service.
A snow and blowing snow advisory has been issued between Tuesday night and Wednesday night for the Vail Valley, he said. That means winds from 50 to 70 miles per hour in the mountains and 20 to 30 miles per hour in the valley, he said.
Wednesday’s high is expected to be 25 degrees and the low is expected to be -1 degrees. With the wind, it could be 15 to 25 degrees below zero, Kyle said.
The mountains on the north side of Interstate 70 are blanketed with snow, which means good snow at the ski resorts, said snowboarder Jovita Boseman, who lives in Eagle.
“This year it’s white and nice and everything’s covered with snow,” Boseman said.
As of Tuesday, Beaver Creek Mountain reported 89 inches this month and more than 19 feet for the season. The mountain gets an average 52 inches in January.

Glen Free, who lives in Australia, has been to Whistler and Lake Tahoe. Free thinks the snow at Beaver Creek is better than the former, where it’s heavier, he said.
Anything is better than Australia, he said.
“In Australia you might as well ski on a block of ice, if there is anything,” he said.
Phil Semak rode Bachelor Gulch Tuesday morning. He also likes to ski in Arrowhead, which is not as steep as the rest of the mountain but is the least crowded, he said.
Semak usually gets one day off each week to snowboard because he’s busy working at the Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch. He tries to ride all of Beaver Creek Mountain on his day off, he said.
“It’s usually not as crowded as Vail,” he said.
Gerry Bergman, a carpenter who lives in Red Cliff, goes snowboarding when it snows 4 inches or more.
“I look at the snow report and if I can get a ride, I go where the ride’s going,” Bergman said.
Bill Swartz, who lives in Pittsburgh, took a short break Tuesday to swap his regular skis for a pair of wider powder skis.
“It’s really tough up there without them,” he said.
