MINTURN, Colorado — Information about a proposed private ski resort can now be found online.

Residents have been asking for information about the annexation of property owned by the Ginn Development Co. into Minturn, said Gary Suiter, Minturn’s interim town manager.

“We’ve had lots of requests for these documents,” Suiter said.

Now that information can be found on the town of Minturn’s Web site. Go to minturn.org and click on the button that says, “Battle Mountain annexation & preliminary development.” Or go directly to the Web site, http://www.minturn.org/battleMtn/index.html.

The Web site includes the annexation agreement between the town and Ginn, and Ginn’s wildlife, traffic management, employee housing and season pass plans. People also can ask for the documents at Minturn Town Center, 302 Pine St.

Ginn wants to build 1,700 homes and condominiums and a private ski resort and golf course on and around Battle Mountain, south of downtown Minturn.

BEAVER CREEK, Colorado — Local firefighters will raise money for organ donations during an almost 200-mile race in April — and in a silent auction Friday.

Firefighters from the Eagle River Fire Protection District will join 2,400 runners in a 199-mile relay race in California to raise money for organ donations April 19 and 20.
Firefighters have raised $1,390 so far, but need more to pay for van rentals, hotel rooms, gasoline and food.

Money also will go to the nonprofit Organs ‘R’ Us to support families in need during the transplant process and for scholarships for donor families.

Friday’s fundraiser will be held at the Coyote Cafe in Beaver Creek Village from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. People also can donate online at http://www.firstgiving.com/tattooed.

EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado — Local law enforcement agencies and the Colorado State Patrol are planning to crackdown on drunk drivers this St. Patrick’s Day Weekend.

The Vail and Avon police departments and the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office will conduct “saturation patrols” from Friday evening until Tuesday morning.

“Our worst roadblock in the fight against drunk driving is the apparent social acceptance of it, especially during a holiday weekend that promotes drinking,” said Col. Mark Trostel, chief of the Colorado State Patrol.

Last year, St. Patrick’s Day fell on a Saturday night and there were five alcohol-related traffic fatalities in Colorado during the three nights enforcement was intensified, the State Patrol says.

More than 360 drunk driving arrests were made during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday last year.

Dunk drivers can be reported by calling “Star CSP,” or *277. The call is free.

AVON, Colorado — A seminar on how employers can better communicate with workers of different ethnicities will be held March 21 at 8:30 a.m. at the Seasons Building in Avon.

David Slade, owner of Boulder-based Lanza Language, says employees who have a better understanding of others cultures can create a work environment where “Spanish speakers and English speakers can work together comfortably, safely, and productively.”

Such an environment can give businesses a competitive edge when it comes to hiring and keeping workers, Slade says.

BEAVER CREEK, Colorado — A screening of adventurer Mike Marolt’s “Skiing the High Line” at the Vilar Center March 20 will raise money for The Heuga Center in Edwards.

A reception begins at 7 p.m., the movie starts at 7:30 p.m., and Marolt will answer questions beginning at 8:30 p.m.

VAIL, Colorado — Kim Potter, a U.S. Forest Service wildlife biologist, has won the agency’s Rocky Mountain Region Excellence Award in Wildlife Partnerships.

Potter, who recruits volunteers for education and conservation programs, has formed partnerships with Vail Resorts, Avon’s Gore Range Natural Science School and the Aspen Skiing Co., among other groups and businesses.
