EAGLE — A former girlfriend and publicist of state House candidate Muhammad Ali Hasan has applied to withdraw her request for a permanent restraining order against Hasan.
Alison Miller, of Eagle, said she did not want to proceed because the case was causing “too much stress to my health, time from work and family, and has become a financial burden,” according to a court document she filed Wednesday.
On March 3, Miller filed a temporary restraining against Hasan alleging that the Beaver Creek Republican harassed her. Hasan is running to represent Eagle County in House District 56.
Hasan’s Denver-based attorney Greg Daniels has denied Miller’s allegations and he said in an e-mail Wednesday that Miller’s application to withdraw from the case was her decision.
“Her doing so is not part of any agreement with Mr. Hasan or his family,” Daniels said. “Mr. Hasan was ready and willing to present witnesses and evidence to refute the claims made by Ms. Miller in her application... we are confident Mr. Hasan would have been vindicated.”
Miller said she filed the motion to withdraw her request because several local Republicans have told her she was ruining Hasan’s campaign. Miller declined to name those Republicans.
She also has been “drowning in legal fees” and disliked the attention given to the case.
“I don’t like having my life, especially my personal life, being splashed through the papers,” said Miller, a former Vail Daily reporter.
