VAIL, Colorado — The Merchant Pass, which many locals use to ski, will be cheaper next season.

The season pass will be $579, the same as the new Epic Pass that Vail Resorts announced to much fanfare last week.

There are some differences between the two season passes. The Merchant Pass is bought by business owners for their employees, and it can be transferred from one employee to another once during ski season.

The Epic Pass is nontransferable but has no restrictions during holidays, as the Merchant Pass does. Additionally, the Epic Pass must be purchased by Nov. 15, while the Merchant Pass is available from Nov.16 throughout the end of ski season.

To get the merchant pass, a business must be a member of the Beaver Creek Resort Company (845-5972), Colorado Restaurant Association (949-1222), Eagle Valley Chamber of Commerce (328-5220), Eagle Valley Homebuilders Association (328-2205), Edwards Business Association (926-1393), Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Association (945-6589), the Vail Valley Partnership (477-4004) or the Vail Chamber and Business Association.

A manager or owner is required to attend the “Turn it Up” customer service program before the ski season. To learn about the “Turn It Up!” program, contact the Vail Chamber & Business Association at info@vailchamber.org or 477-0075.

To learn more about the Merchant Pass, contact Vail Resorts at 754-3080.
