Avon: Gardening series continues at library

AVON, Colorado — The Mountain Adapted Landscape series continues today at the Avon Public Library with “Do’s and Don’ts for your Lawn in the Vail Valley,” presented by Steve Sarro, Vail Golf Club superintendent.

This free evening educational series is Wednesdays through May 28, and is designed for both novice and veteran mountain gardeners.

Space is limited and pre-registration is requested. Refreshments begin at 5 p.m., followed by the lecture and discussion from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Today’s presentation will cover the steps necessary to grow a successful lawn: turfgrass variety selection, soil preparation for long term success, establishment and early care, irrigation, fertilization, pests and diseases, and continuing best management practices, according to Sarah Fleury, Eagle River Water & Sanitation District Water Conservation Officer.

“Steve deals with these issues day in and day out, and on a large scale. He has so much knowledge and experience to share,” Fleury said.

The Mountain Adapted Landscape series provides information about plant materials, techniques and other tips for a beautiful landscape in our mountain climate and is presented in partnership by Colorado State University Extension, Eagle Valley Library District and Eagle River Water & Sanitation District.

For more information or to register, contact the Avon Public Library at 970-949-6797.
