Is that a cell phone in your pocket?
We’ve bagged up the plastic baby bottles, thrown out the plastic wrap and exchanged our Nalgene water bottles for the super-expensive metal ones all in an effort to live a BPA-free existence.
In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past several months, BPA, or bisphenol A, a component found in many plastics, has been linked to all sorts of nasty stuff, like infant puberty and back hair.
And it got us to thinking, what else are we using, consuming on a daily basis, that will surely bring us to an early death? We’re already making ourselves broke by buying the hormone-free squirrel, and we threw away the TV years ago. What else can we do to ensure an inconvenient, neurotic yet toxin-free existence?
Well, there’s the cell phone we have glued to our collective ear. Apparently our overuse of the gadget can create “phantom vibration syndrome”, which basically is when you think your cell phone is ringing (vibrating) but it really isn’t. A few psychology professors say that phantom vibration syndrome is real — as in you really are feeling something that doesn’t exist. Jeffrey Janta, director of the behavioral medicine program at University Hospitals in Cleveland, told USA Today that when cellphone addicts regularly experience vibrating, their brains become wired to associate random things to that sensation.
“It leads you to over-incorporate non-vibratory sensations and attribute them to the idea that you’re receiving a phone call,” Janta told the newspaper. But when asked about the phenomenon, an AT&T spokesman suggested that the problem is just all in our heads.
Many thanks Thank you, thank you, thank you to the gentleman who stopped and helped saved my dog’s life Tuesday morning! Without his help, to break up an attack from another dog, I’m not sure my dog would still be alive. In my haste to get my dog to the veterinarian, I didn’t even get his name. I can’t thank him enough. He is one of those rare individuals a guardian angel. I am blessed to have had him in my neighborhood at the right time. Sincerely, Kathy Morrow
