Grand Junction: Driver dies in wrong-way wreck

GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado — One person is dead and a baby is in critical condition after a car struck a van heading west in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70.

The crash occurred about 1:20 p.m. Monday along eastbound I-70 in Grand Junction.

Police say the driver of a Dodge Caravan traveled the wrong way through a roundabout and drove onto the interstate from an exit ramp.

The van headed west on eastbound I-70 for about three-fourths of a mile before an eastbound Chevrolet Monte Carlo struck it head-on.

The driver of the Monte Carlo was killed. The woman driving the van and a baby in the Monte Carlo suffered what police called "substantial" injuries.

No names have been released.
