Eagle: Woman accused of prostitution avoids jail

Print Comment
EAGLE, Colorado — A woman who pleaded guilty to misdemeanor prostitution will not go to jail, according to Eagle County court records.

Heather Lee Linton, 38, was arrested March 10 on a prostitution charge, a rarity in Eagle County. She had met with an undercover investigator at an Eagle hotel and offered to “perform sexual acts” for $400, the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office has said.

Linton was ordered to pay $121 in fines and court costs after she pleaded guilty and was sentenced Wednesday, authorities said. A lesser possession of marijuana charge against Linton was dismissed in exchange for the guilty plea, Eagle County District Attorney Mark Hurlbert said.

“She’s pleading guilty to the highest charge, and she’s pleading guilty to what she did, which was prostitution,” Hurlbert said.

People convicted of prostitution generally don’t go to jail unless they have been convicted several times, Hurlbert said.

An informant’s tip led to the undercover investigation and Linton’s arrest, said Sara Cross, spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office.

Linton was working alone, and her arrest wasn’t an indication of a larger prostitution ring, Cross has said.

No number for Linton was listed in the phone book. The Sheriff’s Office has said Linton lived in Minturn, but a March 11 jail record said she was homeless.

The last time prostitution was reported to the Sheriff’s Office was in August 2002, Cross said.
