Town Talk Towers
Howdy and welcome to Town Talk, the column that thought Crocs were stupid until we tried a pair. We think they are really comfortable even though people say we look like we escaped from a mental institution.
Movin’ right into it.
Closing doors
The Town Talk Titans officially are in mourning for Blizzard’s Mountain Deli, the little sandwich-coffee shop off Seibert Circle in Vail Village.
It looks like it’s gone for good, with all the insides stripped and the sign gone.
You might not have noticed the place hidden across the way from the Tap Room. In fact, it took the Titans a couple of years to even realize it existed.
But the Titans have nearly lived at Blizzard’s during mealtimes for the past several years, with our favorite sandwich being the Sunsational — a stellar creation of turkey, sprouts and pesto, if our memory serves us correctly.
And then there was the Mountain Stuffer, a wonderful combination of a tortilla, spicy sausage and cheddar cheese.
The deli had a warm, cozy, homestyle vibe, with handpainted murals on the walls and a dog dish outside for canine friends.
More than anything, people there were really nice. Starting with Tracy, who owned the place. Tracy would always remember your name, which was great.
On Closing Day, Tracy handed the Titans our Mountain Stuffer, and we would have never guessed the place was closing.
We’re not sure why it closed, to be honest. Maybe it was competition from new coffee shops. Starbucks came a few years ago, and this winter, Vail Resorts opened its own coffee shop in the new development at the Vista Bahn.
We know, we know — this is a capitalist economy, and competition is a part of that. Still, this morning, we would do anything for a Mountain Stuffer.
