Aspen Highlands won't reopen this spring

Print Comment
ASPEN, Colorado — There will be no skiing at Aspen Highlands this Memorial Day weekend, the Aspen Skiing Co. says.

Resort officials were pondering how they could offer skiing, since there is an abundance of snow, spokesman Jeff Hanle said.

But it was determined that staffing would be too tough to make it work. It would require pulling some workers off capital improvement projects at Snowmass. The company is loath to do that because construction deadlines already are tight.

There is still a chance that Aspen Mountain could open on June 13, when the Silver Queen Gondola resumes operations for the summer. That evaluation will be made in early June, Hanle said.
