EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado — A Pennsylvania driver led a deputy on a chase, leapt form a truck and then tried to run away on Vail Pass Thursday morning, the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office says.

Charles Boswell, 28, of Bensalem, Pa., did not have identification or documentation for the truck he was driving when the deputy checked on him around 10 a.m. near mile marker 183, the Sheriff’s Office says.

Boswell then drove toward Vail for two miles before jumping out of the truck, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Only a berm prevented the truck, which stopped in the median, from going into the eastbound lanes of traffic, the Sheriff’s Office says.

The deputy chased 400 yards before catching him, the Sheriff’s Office says.

Boswell was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a forged instrument, two counts of criminal impersonation, criminal mischief, marijuana possession, compulsory insurance, speeding, vehicular eluding, driving a vehicle without a valid operator's license and reckless driving.

Boswell is being held at the Eagle County Detention Facility on a $7,500 bond.
