COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado — A Colorado Springs man is being ordered to spend 70 years in prison for beating a worker at a video game store to death.
Twenty-six-year-old Michael Bowen had previously pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree murder and aggravated robbery. He learned his sentence Monday.
Bowen was accused of the November 2006 killing of 39-year-old Erwin Hoffman-Bermudez at Video Game Exchange in Colorado Springs. Bowen was on parole at the time after felony convictions for fraud, harassment and theft.
The El Paso County coroner said head injuries, likely caused by a 2-by-4, led to the victim’s death.
Prosecutors dropped a first-degree murder charge against Bowen in exchange for his guilty pleas.
Authorities say the victim’s family approved of the plea deal.
