Letter: High-speed rail’s time has come

Print Comment
Thank you to Ali Hasan, candidate for Colorado House District 56, and his campaign team for bringing Clear Creek County Commissioner and Chairman Harry Dale to Agave in Avon last Wednesday to increase our awareness of the viability of high-speed passenger rail to the Eagle Valley.

It is encouraging to see young people with the two leadership qualities of foresight and courage that are necessary to keep our local economies strong while providing much needed safety to the people who work and travel in our beautiful state.

While many of us can certainly see the benefits and discuss with friends the possibility of a high-speed rail system, the fortitude required from our political leaders to begin the journey let alone accomplish a project of this magnitude cannot be underemphasized.

This fireside chat was a great start to the process and I appreciate the energy and intelligence that Ali Hasan possesses to see through what we all know is necessary and will be welcomed up on completion. As Mr. Hasan said, this was an idea whose time had come even before there was $4-a gallon gas and like all advances in technology, we will soon be accustomed to the statement from locals and tourists alike, “how did we make do without it?”
