Report: Theodore leaves Avs

Theodore signs two-year contract with Washington

Goalie Jose Theodore and forward Andrew Brunette, both unrestricted free-agents, on Tuesday left the Avalanche to sign with the Washington Capitals and Minnesota Wild, TSN reported.

Theodore signed a two-year contract with Washington. He came to the Avalanche in 2006 after spending his career until then with the Montreal Canadiens. His agent had said the free-agent goalie preferred to stay with the Avalanche, but contract talks with the team stalled last week.

Terms of Brunette's deal were not disclosed. His departure was not unexpected.

Brunette came to Colorado from Minnesota, with whom he played from 2001 through 2004. He sat out the 2004-05 season before signing with the Avalanche as a free agent on Aug. 6, 2005.

TSN also reported free-agent goalie Andrew Raycroft had signed a one-year deal with the Avalanche, and defenseman Kurt Sauer had signed a four-year contract with the Phoenix Coyotes. Avalanche officials said Monday they expected Sauer to sign with another team

The team announced Tuesday it signed forward Per Ledin, who has played most of his professional career in Sweden, to a one-year contract. He spent last season with HV 71 Jonkoping of the Swedish Elite League.
