Dog lovers beware: The Lundehunds are coming ...

Labradors and Golden Retrievers generally dominate the dog population of Eagle, but that is all changing beginning today.

The Norwegian Lundehund Association of America is hosting its national specialty dog show at the Eagle Colorado Fairgrounds Friday starting at 4:30 p.m.

A national specialty dog show is a conformation dog show for one breed. The show is typically an annual event open to all owners, nationally and internationally, of one particular breed.

The Norwegian Lundehund is among the world’s most unusual domestic dog breed. With at least six toes on each foot and elliptical pupils, the ancient breed features many unique anatomical and behavioral adaptations. The Eagle show is a rare opportunity for the public to see the breed in the flesh. On July 1, the Norwegian Lundehund was admitted to the miscellaneous class of the American Kennel Club, the last step before full AKC recognition.

The show is open to the public with no admission fees.

In addition to the Lundehund specialty today, the Roaring Fork Kennel Club will host its annual all-breed show throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday, also at the Eagle County Fairgrounds.
