CANON CITY, Colorado — A body pulled from the Arkansas River is being identified as that of a man who had been reported missing to Salida police a week earlier.

The El Paso County coroner's office says dental records confirm that 37-year-old James G. Durgan of Salida was the man found dead.

Canon City police say kayakers found the body in the spikebuck section of the river on Saturday.

Authorities say Durgan's death was a homicide.

Durgan had been reported missing July 12 after last being seen in Canon City. Officials with the Fremont Combined Investigative Response Team found Durgan's 2002 Saturn three days later just east of the Chaffee-Fremont County line, but there was no sign of him until Saturday.

No arrests have been made.
