Business name: The Barbers Den
Date opened: Located in the same Edwards Plaza Building for about 20 years; under new ownership since June.
Owner: Anne Ralston, owner/hair stylist.
Contact info: 970-926-8091.
What goods or services do you provide? Haircuts, buzz cuts, kids cuts, beard/mustache trims, neck shaves, hair products, complimentary high-speed Internet, interesting conversation, quality reading material, and more.
What strategy do you use to differentiate your business from your competition?
At the Barbers Den, you dont need an appointment walk-ins only. There exists an old school barber shop feel here. Its a place where men can relax and get a great haircut for a great price (cuts start at just $12), when its convenient for them.
What philosophy do you follow in dealing with your customers?
What can your customers expect from you? Customer satisfaction guaranteed! I am extremely customer-service oriented. I will greet you at the door and let you know how long the wait will be if there is one. I take an interest in my customers and try to remember names, occupations, what theyre into. I love what I do and I think it shows.
Tell us a little about your background, education and experience: I moved to Vail in 1989 to experience living in the mountains. I fell in love with this area as an impressionable teenager, and am proud to call it home.
Since graduating from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Ive been involved in almost every aspect of the service industry, from restaurants to retail. I also taught yoga in Vail for many years after completing a year-long course in yoga education in India.
With the help of my family, I opened and operated a franchise called Heavenly Ham in Eagle Vail from 2000-2004. And I recently became a cosmetologist at the Glenwood Beauty Academy, with the help of my husband, Christopher (Banglz Salon in Avon). Now, after working at Aria Spa for three years, I have my own barbershop!
What is the most humorous thing that has happened at your business since you opened?
When I bought the Barbers Den, I inherited a fish tank with three big fish in it. The first time I cleaned the tank I didnt have a clue what I was doing! Thanks to Katherine from The Pet Spot, I now know how to vacuum out the fish tank properly.
