BOULDER, Colorado — A 22-year-old Boulder man is hospitalized in critical condition in Denver after what police call an unprovoked stabbing.

Authorities say Ryan Christopher Kelly was attacked about 2:15 a.m. Wednesday in the University Hill area of Boulder.

Witnesses told police that Kelly heard two people talking loudly to one another on the street, and thought that they might have been trying to talk to him. Police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley says Kelly spoke to the two in a non-confrontational way and asked if they were trying to talk to him, and he was attacked.

Kelly was stabbed in the neck, the lower back and the abdomen.

Police arrested 23-year-olds Cory James Morales and Alex Joseph Torres of Boulder.

They're expected to make initial court appearances Thursday.
