Cops look into abduction attempt

Police investigate attempted abduction of Glenwood Springs High School girl

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado — Glenwood Springs Police received a call from Glenwood Springs High School administrators Thursday morning after a student reported an attempted abduction as she was walking back to the school.

According to Glenwood Police Chief Terry Wilson, a teenage girl, whose name was not released because she is a minor, was walking back to the high school around 10:30 Thursday morning when she was approached by a “possible” white sport utility vehicle — similar in size and appearance to a Jeep Grand Cherokee — on Pitkin Avenue in Glenwood Springs.

Wilson said that the girl claimed that a male from the vehicle grabbed one of her arms and tried to pull her into the vehicle. However, the girl was able to pull herself loose and continued walking back to the school, Wilson said.

The girl reported the incident to high school administration upon her return, who then later contacted police. No information regarding where the girl was returning from was available. The exact number of suspects and their ethnicity were “unknown” as of 5:30 Thursday night, according to Wilson. However, GSPD are actively investigating the case.
