On Friday, Sept. 14, Vail Mountain School 11-year-olds spent the morning pulling invasive weeds at Donovan Pavilion, much to the joy of fellow weed volunteers from the Friends of the Eagles Nest Wilderness and of Gregg Barrie of town of Vail, Public Works. We are most grateful to the young people from Collins Canadas sixth-grade class and to the school and Kate Blakesley for fostering this special project, which will allow the native flowers in the large garden between the west side of the pavilion and the playground to out-compete the nasty invasives, especially yellow toadflax.
Many thanks to our lively and helpful assistants. We look forward to working with them next spring.
