Money approved for Vail events

Teva Mountain Games gets largest allocation

VAIL, Colorado — The Vail, Colorado Commission on Special Events has allocated $688,000 to help sponsor 26 events to be held during 2009. The seven-member commission met on Nov. 18 to finalize the allocations.

The largest allocation for 2008, $85,000, was awarded to the Vail Valley Foundation to help fund the Teva Mountain Games, plus an additional $45,000 for the World Cup Climbing Competition, scheduled for June 4-7. Other significant funding awards include $70,000 for Spring Back to Vail, $66,000 for Oktoberfest;, $57,000 for the Vail Film Festival, $56,000 for the Vail Farmers’ Market, $54,000 for Gourmet on Gore and $52,000 for Vail America Days.

Responding to input from the local business community, the commisson has held back $145,000 in 2009 funds and will consider how events can be enhanced to stimulate the economy between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Over 30 event proposals with requests totaling more than $1.2 million were considered. The CSE’s 2009 budget, which is allocated by the Vail Town Council as part of the overall town budget, includes $833,310 for special events, up from the $765,200 allocated in 2008.
