This two-pound chunk of concrete hit a trucker who told Eagle County sheriff's deputies he didn't remember a large stretch of his drive Sunday.
EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado — A trucker who thought he’d been shot in the head Sunday while driving on Interstate 70 had been hit by a two-pound chunk of concrete, the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office says.
The driver, whose name was not released, was in a red Freightliner semi-truck pulling a white box trailer. He last remembered stopping at a truck stop off of exit 40 on I-70 in Utah earlier Sunday morning.
The driver’s log shows a stop for lunch in Grand Junction between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., but the driver did not remember that, the Sheriff’s Office says.
The driver, who is from Washington state, was pulled over near the Eagle interchange around 2 p.m. when he called to report the incident.
Investigators are not sure where the incident happened, but believe the concrete broke through the driver’s side window and hit him in the head.
The trucker was treated and released from the Vail Valley Medical Center.
The Eagle County Sheriff’s Office are trying to determine whether the incident was a crime or a freak accident. Anyone with any information can remain anonymous by calling Eagle County Crime Stoppers at 970-328-7007, 1-800-972-TIPS, or by submitting a tip online at www.tipsubmit.com. A tip leading to the arrest and indictment of a suspect can earn up to a 1,000 reward.
