SUMMIT COUNTY, Colorado — An officer who responded to a noise complaint at a Summit County, Colorado employee-housing complex got a little more than he bargained for after an intoxicated resident tried to fight off medical help, police say.
The resident was rolling around on the floor when police arrived to investigate the noises that had been annoying the neighbors and, after the officer asked if he was all right, the man began screaming profanities and refusing help.
The man then rolled on the floor into the bathroom, where he began throwing up in the toilet.
Because of his suspected high level of intoxication, officers requested an ambulance to take him to the hospital, where he could be treated rather than being hauled to the jail’s detox unit.
Once medical personnel arrived, the man began kicking and screaming, and two officers had to pick him up by his elbows to take him to the ambulance.
It was at this point that the man turned his head to the right and sank his teeth into one of the officer’s legs just above the knee, leaving a visible hole in his pants.
After several minutes of wrestling, the man was transported to the hospital and then to the Summit County Jail, where he was charged with second-degree assault, obstruction of a peace officers, disorderly conduct and underage drinking.
The officer’s pants were booked into evidence.
