‘Supreme’ kick off to Beaver Creek's Bon Appetit fest

Thursday’s line-up includes a master cooking class, sushi workshop and Mary Wilson concert

BEAVER CREEK, Colorado — Today marks the first full day of the Bon Appétit Culinary & Wine Focus at Beaver Creek Resort. The day starts with a master cooking class with Brazilian chef Mara Salles, continues with a sushi workshop with master sushi chef Hidekazu Tojo and culminates with a live concert with Mary Wilson of the Supremes at the Vilar Center.

Chef Mara Salles will lead a master Cooking Class at Splendido at the Chateau from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is an opportunity for guests to learn more about traditional Brazilian cuisine in an intimate atmosphere. Chef Salles runs Tordesilhas Restaurante in São Paulo, Brazil and features regional Brazilian food on her menu, from “Pato no Tucupi,” a typical dish from the Amazon, to marinades and gaúcho traditions from the far south. Her food has been described as “a dialogue between contemporary and traditional Brazilian food.”

Participants then have the opportunity to move from South America to North America. From 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., master sushi Chef Hidekazu Tojo of Tojo’s in Vancouver reigns at Foxnut in the Beaver Creek Village, offering a sushi workshop class that will delight sushi lovers and novices alike. Considered Vancouver’s top Japanese Restaurant, Tojo’s has been featured in “1,000 Places to See Before You Die” and on The Food Network and Travel Channel.

This year, the Bon Appétit Culinary & Wine Focus includes a Thursday evening concert at the Vilar Center. Featuring Mary Wilson of the Supremes, the concert will start at 7 p.m. with specially chosen sips and bites in the Vilar Center lobby beginning at 6:30 p.m. Chefs that will be featured prior to the show include: Shawn McClain (Spring, Chicago), Alex Atala (D.O.M, São Paulo), Joey Campanaro (Little Owl, NYC) and Mara Salles (Todesilhas, São Paulo).

Mary Wilson is best known as a member of the Motown soul and pop group The Supremes. Wilson is the only Supreme who remained in the group from the time it was formed in 1959, as The Primettes, until the very end, when the group was disbanded in 1977. The Supremes enjoyed 12 U.S. number-one hit records.

The festival is open to public. A portion of ticket sales will be donated to local charities. To purchase tickets, visit www.bonappetitfocus.com or call 888-920-2787.
