Colorado: Sen. Bennet calls for immigration reform

Bennet acknowledges the issue is a difficult one to undertak

ALAMOSA, Colorado — Colorado Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet says Congress needs to work on immigration reform even though it's a sensitive topic.

Bennet made the comments at a town hall meeting in Alamosa during a two-day trip through the San Luis Valley in southern Colorado. Bennet told about two dozen people that farmers, law enforcement, and health care officials are among those who have spoken to him about immigration reform.

Bennet acknowledges the issue is a difficult one to undertake, saying he thinks "the politics of it are frail right now."

The rookie senator has been touring the state hosting town hall-style meetings. He is running for re-election next year after Gov. Bill Ritter appointed him to replace Sen. Ken Salazar, who became interior secretary.
