Vail Valley school construction still hazardous

New Battle Mountain building in Edwards will be ready for 2009-10 school year in Vail Valley

VAIL VALLEY, Colorado — The Battle Mountain High School campus in Edwards is almost finished and will be ready for the beginning of the Vail Valley's 2009-10 school year, but Principal Phil Qualman is reminding people to keep away from the site until it’s safe.

Though the new facility looks like it’s almost finished, construction site managers request that people refrain from visiting the site until it is turned over to the school district in September, Qualman said in a school newsletter. The site is hazardous until it’s completely finished.

The school district has not yet decided what to do with the old Battle Mountain building in Eagle-Vail. The Eagle-Vail campus will be open in the summer for things like summer school, fall sports practices and registration.

Summer school begins June 8, fall sports begin Aug. 17 and registration begins Sept. 8 — all in Eagle-Vail. Fall sports practices will move to the new Edwards campus on Sept. 14.

Freshman orientation at the new campus is Sept. 18, and the first day of school is Sept. 21.
