Denver sets travel spending record

Visitors spent $3.1 billion in Denver in 2008, up 9 percent from $2.9 billion spent in 2007

DENVER, Colorado — Denver set a record in spending by travelers last year, thanks to the Democratic National Convention.

A report by Longwoods International says visitors spent $3.1 billion in Denver in 2008, up 9 percent from $2.9 billion spent in 2007.

Denver hosted some 12.2 million overnight visits in 2008, the same as the previous year.

The report was commissioned by the city's Convention and Visitors Bureau.
