VAIL — The grandmasters and masters divisions of the Vail Lacrosse Shootout crowned champions Monday afternoon with the Polar Statesmen and Jagermeister taking home titles fairly comfortably.
The Polar Statesmen were dominant all week long in grandmasters, outscoring their opponents 47-12, while Jagermiester dominated its opponents, 37-15.
The boys high school divisioncompleted quarterfinal play, while the girls high school finished up pool play and sorted into three brackets. In the supermasters, Millennium/Team Rock-it Pocket faces the Elder Statesmen in the championship game today at 1 p.m. at Ford Park.
Masters
Jagermeister defeated Middlebury for the second consecutive year in the masters championship, running away in the second half for an 11-7 victory. Jager got superior goaltending all week long from Sean O'Rourke and got three goals and one assist from tournament MVP Mark DiGiovanni to get the win.
After a close first half that saw Jager ahead 4-3, Jager's good defense and transition game led to three quick goals that opened the game. Faceoffs were key in the game as well with Jagermeister winning 15-of-27.

The Florida Realy Old Guys (FROGs) had no answer for Bill Edell as he notched six goals on the day and could basically score at will. In the fourth, the FROGs made a small splash to bring the score to 10-7, but it was too little too late.

Grandmasters Division
The Polar Statesmen scored 10 consecutive goals to take an 11-2 lead against the USA Stars on the way to an 18-4 victory in the grandmasters title game.
Scott Petosa pumped in five goals and two assists and the Statesmen used accurate shooting and good riding to get the victory. Tom Chancellor and Jim Hayes were huge on offense as well.

The East Coast Kings, Team Colorado, Baltimore Crabs and Players Lacrosse Club all advanced to the semifinals in Division I. Players Lacrosse was the only No. 2 seed to win, taking down Maverik Dallas, 11-8, in a nice comeback.
Team Colorado looked extremely impressive in its win over Team Ohio, cruising, 18-9. Players Lacrosse represents the best for a Chicago-based team in the Shootout. There were no surprises in the other two games as an extremely-talented Baltimore team took down Blue Lion Elite with ease and the East Coast Kings hammered War Cry Lacrosse. The Division I semifinals will be at Nottingham Park (Avon 1) at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. today.
