DENVER, Colorado — A century-old City Park fountain that was reconstructed in time for the Democratic National Convention in Denver last year has been damaged by lightning.
Park officials say the fountain, with its 90-foot towers of water under multicolored lights, was turned off after the lightning strike Thursday. A contractor is still assessing the damage.
Parks officials say the water and light shows will resume once it can be repaired.
The fountain was built to dazzle delegates at the 1908 Democratic convention in Denver. The deteriorating fountain was torn down and reconstructed beginning in January 2007 for $3.2 million, ahead of the last convention in August.
