VAIL, Colorado — Jean Richardson, an Oklahoma native whose known for her abstract acrylics of horses, will be showing new work at Vail, Colorado's Cogswell Gallery for the remainder of the summer season or until it's sold out.

In her recent years, Richardson has explored themes of energy and motion using the motif of the leaping horse or figure. The early influence of abstract expressionism is still apparent in the artist's painterly canvases. She is involved in brush stroke and gesture interposed in violent explosion of transparent colors and heavy textures laid with a palette knife and then stained with splashy washes of acrylic.

Richardson received her B.A. from Wesleyan College in 1962. where she majored in painting and was influenced by two prominent teachers whose roots were in the “Robert Henri” branch of the New York school.
