VAIL, Colorado — Nine years ago, following a successful singing career in New York and six years as an executive for Eileen Fisher, Saundra Messinger — whose pieces can be found at Cogswell Gallery in Vail — began designing jewelry. Her collections are now sold in 250 high-end boutiques, galleries, museum stores, catalogs and department stores all over the world.
Messinger's work has been recognized for its design by the International Jewelry Design Guild and The Fashion Group International. Her jewelry has appeared on the cover of Vogue and in InStyle, and Lucky magazines.
Messinger also appeared in More magazine as one of six jewelry designers in the ‘She's Got Style' feature. Her jewelry and her career as a jewelry designer have been profiled in trade publications such as Rappaport Diamond Report, JCK magazine, Women's Wear Daily and in newspapers across the country.
Messinger says that seeing women wearing her jewelry is the most exciting thing about being a designer. Her designs are funky, elegant, confident and cool.
The imperfect geometric shapes found in her jewelry are reminiscent of the sea glass produced by the two rivers she loves, the Mississippi and the Hudson. The uneven surfaces, unexpected designs, tiny sparkling diamonds and shimmering matte finish and create jewelry that is strong, yet feminine. When asked to describe herself as a designer, Saundra's reply is simple, “taught and inspired by life.”
