Bobcat kills Chihuahua in Colorado Springs

Wildlife official says it's rare to hear about a bobcat killing a dog

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado — A bobcat attacked and killed a pet Chihuahua in a northwest Colorado Springs neighborhood.

Colorado Division of Wildlife spokesman Dave Lovell says the attack took place Wednesday. He says the dog was let outside and was killed before the bobcat could be chased away.

Lovell says it's rare to hear about a bobcat killing a dog. Wildlife officials believe they're being lured into the area by a big rabbit population.

Bobcats are about twice the size of a house cat with short, bobbed tails.

Wildlife officials say bobcats usually hunt at dawn and dusk and that people should take precautions before letting animals outside then.
