DENVER, Colorado — Last weekend, in the cramped, dingy visitors clubhouse inside the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, the Colorado Rockies were in a jovial mood. Rookie center fielder Dexter Fowler was messing with first-base coach Glenallen Hill, informing him that he didn't know how to play cards. Across the table, outfielder Carlos Gonzalez laughed as Todd Helton tried to steal a peek at his hand.
Two hallways down, far from the kid stuff going on in the clubhouse during the Rockies' series sweep, manager Jim Tracy was studying game charts, crunching numbers, looking for any advantage.
"That's something I try to put in play every day," he said of the long-ago lesson learned when he was a coach for Montreal manager Felipe Alou.
