Crews monitoring wildfires in western Colorado, Utah

Two wildfires are burning in remote areas near the Bookcliff Mountains in western Colorado

GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado — The Bureau of Land Management says two wildfires are burning in remote areas near the Bookcliff Mountains in western Colorado.

The BLM says one fire has burned 935 acres west of Baxter Pass, including 262 acres in eastern Utah. An air tanker dropped retardant on the north end of the fire Thursday. Crews first responded to the fire Tuesday.

A second fire, which started June 30, has burned 100 acres at the north end of the Bookcliffs.

Neither fire is threatening any structures. Crews are monitoring both fires, but not actively fighting them.
